what’s important about science today?

on the road, questions by Clay Lowe

I’m on the road again this week. I’m back up to the lovely Stirling to deliver a soft skills workshop. Should be fun and intense, because that’s how I like it.

In the meantime, here’s a question for you: “What’s important about science today?” Check out this video and find out what folks had to say. This is part of an educational project by Time Jones (www.communicatescience.com) The participants were asked to draw their results using the Surrealists’ technique of ‘Exquisite Corpse’.

you know more than you think you know

questions by Clay Lowe

A: “Why do you answer questions with questions?”
B: “Perhaps because you ask questions to which you know the answers.”
A: “Well if I knew the answers, why would I bother to ask?”
B: “Because you want to avoid knowing your own answers.”

high heels

questions by Clay Lowe

I have a burning question I need to know the answer to…

At work today, I watched a woman struggle to walk across the company courtyard.  She was wearing high heels.  It snowed last night and the ground was wet, and there was  patches of ice here and there.  Now this woman may have just been a block head for wearing high heels on such a day, but it got me to thinking, why, in general do women wear high heels to work?  And I am talking serious high heels…

There’s a symposium tomorrow at the local Catholic college and the question on the table is: “Are morals a thing of the past?”

I can guess what the Catholic school is going to say, what’s your view?

question no. 53

Question number 53 is courtesy of those funky business boys.  The Nobel Prize winning Mr. Henry Kissinger is reputed to have started a press conference with the question: ‘Does anyone have any questions for my answers?’  Which reminds me of the poster of a monkey scratching his head underneath a caption that said, “just when I thought I had all of life’s answers, they changed the questions.”

are we meant to suffer?

P.S. In 1995 my unit was notified that we would be deploying to Bosnia. We were marched into the post theater to hear a presentation from our brigade commander. He used this video to set the tone for what he was about to say. That day remains forever etched in my memory.
