There are two ways to look at life

“The first view is that nothing stays the same and that nothing is inherently connected, and that the only driving force in anyone’s life is entropy. The second is that everything pretty much stays the same (more or less) and that everything is completely connected, even if we don’t realise it.” – Chuck Klosterman

And Like Chuck, most days I wake up believing my life is hurdling through space and time governed by entropy, but by three o’clock in the afternoon, i’m pretty much convinced that life is governed by the adage “same shit, different day.”

I’ve tried looking for a connection and the only one I could find is that the connection is me and my entropic meandering life. And you know what, that shit is OK with me, and as long as it’s OK with you, then we are both good.

So, in the spirit of finding new things to share with you, here is today’s mini ‘zine.

I’m reading about hippies and trying to figure out how to take control of my life and stay permanently unplugged from The Matrix. In my search for answers, I came across Stephen Kruiser’s funny little ebook, Don’t Let The Hippies Shower I’ve only read the first  few chapters so far, but it had me snickering because I recognised the covert hippie invasion of our school systems.  I thought they had only infiltrated English school systems, but it looks like they’ve stormed America too.

[blockquote]Competition is bad news all right, but it’s not just that we overdo it or misapply it. The trouble lies with competition itself. The best amount of competition for our children is none at all, and the very phrase “healthy competition” is actually a contradiction in terms.[/blockquote]

This sentiment makes my mind spin out of control. But what happens when they venture out into the “real” world – the real world that’s all about competition, the one where who gets into what university, and who gets what job is determine by who competes best. What happens then? What happens when they first experience the bitter taste of defeat for the first time, especially if they haven’t been properly prepared for it.  Thinking back on it now, it was the fear of failure that drove me to excel.  I hated the prospect of losing – still do.  But it’s a new world and one must adjust or face extinction.

You know you’re in the hurt box if you find yourself using FaceBook as a verb.

facebook as verb

Even if you don’t say it out loud, I totally know you’re thinking it!  There is no shame.  Well, maybe a little.

Taking a trip through Jimi’s mind a week before he died.

He is a cool cat and very lucid. Listening to some of his interviews, I can hear the spiritual undertones dripping from his words.  He was a philosopher and a poet, perhaps one ahead of his time.  He wanted to go deeper, but the music and the times held him back, pigeon-holed him into a label, a label he felt he had outgrown.

[blockquote source=”Wikipedia”]In Greek mythology, a phoenix or phenix (Ancient Greek φοίνιξ phóinīx) is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. [/blockquote]

Phoenix-Fabelwesen

I’m sitting here floating on this rock. There are a lot of people out there floating on this rock. Mostly we bumped into each other politely and no more is said. Occasionally we collide into each other hard enough to leave an imprint that scorches each other’s soul. The flame consumes us until it burns out and we are left to ashes hoping like the phoenix to rise again. Rise again you say. But some times I don’t feel like rising again. I want to lay down in the ashes until my body grows cold. And then something happens. A light. A spark. A flame. And out of the flame I rise again.

And here are the..

an indie rock band out of Wolverhampton, UK.  The intro to the songs reminds me of The Who.  Rock out anyway, and check out the boys on Facebook and Soundcloud.
